Day 18

These are books that are constantly sitting on my dresser.

Atlas Shrugged has been the most influencial book in my adult life. I picked it up at 22 and have yet to put it down (figuratively). I have probably read the entire book 3 times, but I have cracked it open to re-read excerpts at least a hundred times. I have heard it criticized as having characters that are too polarized, but they hit the right chord with me. From what I understand, in a poll of the most influential books of all time it came in 2nd, surpassed only by the Bible. I could go on and on about this book, but I'll spare anyone reading!

The other book, Les Miserables, is one that I've been working on for about a year...but I've hit a snag. It's getting into a lot of detail about the Battle of Waterloo (off-hand, I think that's the battle...) and it's somewhat lost me. I just haven't been in the mood to trudge through that part. I want to get back to the main characters of the book and the on-going plot. Not looking back on the battle, though I'm sure it's significant to the story in some way that I don't yet see.

Another reason that I'm not making it through Les Miserables very well may be that I have been jumping between too many other books, or excerpts from books, as well as a new-found addiction to the Gateway Pundit blog (a conservative news/media blog). The comments can get pretty entertaining on there!

On another note, I have decided to try a reading challenge this year--read one book for each of the letters of the alphabet whose title starts with one of the letters. Anyone care to join me? :)
